On October 12, over 100 students representing seven Palm Beach County Florida schools gathered at the Keiser University Flagship Campus in West Palm Beach for the 2019 RDK Melanoma Foundation Students Against Melanoma SAMPOSIUM. The purpose: to bring peers together and share valuable information about the prevention and early detection of melanoma so they may pass it along throughout their community. The attendees represented William T. Dwyer High School, Jupiter High School, John I. Leonard High School, Suncoast High School, Inlet Grove High School, Forest Hill High School and Independence Middle School. We are so proud of each and every one of you.

The SAMPOSIUM was conducted by RDK Executive Director Stacy Ostrau and Director of Operations Rita Fox. Speakers included Deborah Kann Schwarzberg, RDK Founder and President; Dr. John Kinney, retired dermatologist and Vice President of RDK Board of Directors; Dr. Vijay Narendran, oncologist with Cancer Center of South Florida; and Chris Shultz of Shultz Communications Florida, discussing upcoming social media content and digital strategy. Key components of sun safety education were shared through several informative videos and a highly competitive game of “Sun Safety Jeopardy.” The floor was then opened up to a busy question and answer session.

A special thanks to all those involved in making the 2019 SAMPOSIUM a HUGE success. For more information about the Students Against Melanoma program, go to: https://melanomafoundation.com/student-against-melanoma-sam/.

The Foundation’s vision is to educate young people throughout the country and give them the skills necessary to make healthy sun safety choices throughout their lives. As the Foundation grows we will continue to advocate for school districts throughout the country to require sun safety education as part of their curriculum.
